I have just purchased an "older" home, and it has an outdated 60 amp. service panel. I wish to upgrade this to 100 or possibly higher. Is there a do-it-yourself solution? I would especially like to know if the wire entering the house would be sufficient for the added current.
Answer:
This is not a DIY project and no, the conductors leading to the house will normally not carry the extra load. When updating from 60 Amp. service, my suggestion is to go as high as you can without having to lay cables under ground. This is usually 225 Amp.
