My 300 watt halogene kitchen light over the table has a sizzling sound when I dim the light. I've changed the bulb and the dimmer from advice I received at my local hardware store but that didn't help much. Is there a special dimmer switch available or do I have to simply live with the noise?

You might want to check on how many other things you have on that circuit and what they are. Disconnecting the otheers one at a time should tell you what is inteferring with the light.
