When I use my iron in one of our bedrooms and the lights are turned on, the lights dim slightly when the iron heats up, then get brighter, then dim again, and so on. Could you tell me if you think this is something that I can correct or do I need to call in an electrician?
Answer:
The cycling of the light is caused by the iron cycling on and off as it needs power to get back up to a given temperature. I'd use a different plug and hopefully, that one will be on another circuit. This may very well get rid of the cycling but time spent discussing these things with professionals (electrician) is never wasted.
