I have a raised ranch home in the Carleton Place (ON) area on a 1 acre lot. The basement opens onto the yard, faces southwest, and has two 6 foot patio doors. I am planning to build a sunroom off the basement and want to use interlocking brick as the floor. I would like to use the sunroom for most of the year and plan to heat it with a wood stove. I figure that the floor will be quite cold in the winter so I would like to use some sort of floor heating. The base for the interlocking brick has already been installed. The base is compacted stone that is at least 30 inches deep.What are my options to heat the floor?
Answer:
With that much masonry, its not going to be easy. Radiant electrical heat is about the only option you have but that does away with the interlocking stone because you'll want something over it before you lay in the heating element and then carpet. A solid floor will heave in winter and you don't want that.
