I am currently in the market for a home. I found one that was decently priced and in good shape, with minor cosmetic work needed. However, the one sticking point for me with this place is the radiant heating in the ceiling. I believe it to be electric (I was so surprised it was in the ceiling I forgot to ask) and although there doesn't appear to be any problems with the heat it gives off (the homeowner had it turned to 83 deg. F) There is a repaired (badly) ceiling crack along the centre of the house. Have you ever seen this manner of heating before, and is it a good idea? I just don't want the house to burn down before I can retro a forced air system. Oh incidentally, the house was built in the mid-70's.
Answer:
For a few years ceiling radiant heat was quite popular so if its the only glitch, it would not turn me off - particularly if you plan a forced air system replacement.
