We just recently moved into a 3-year old house. I was surprised to find that there is no main shutoff switch in the electrical panel. Have you ever heard of this? Everyone who's visited the house so far says that they've never seen a box without one either. I haven't needed to shut off the power yet but it would be a pain to have to turn off and on all 31 breakers every time! Can a main shutoff switch be installed easily?
Answer:
A main shut-off switch is going to be a necessity and it can be added just before the breaker panel but you'll need your power authority's permission to do it. They'll also give you instructions (dictated) as to how and where you'll install it. I've seen situations like this before but not on a 31-breaker panel.
