Question:

I have recently discovered that at some time someone used aluminum wiring in some spots around our house. It is an older house and the basic wiring throughout is copper. There are some places where previous owners have installed aluminum when making changes. Is there a safety factor involved. Should we change the wiring?

Answer:

You can't justify changing all the wiring but you can certainly justify hiring a professional to take a look at things. Yes there is a safety factor to consider because copper and aluminum do not like each other as metals so joints tend to corrode if they are not protected.
