Question:

My basement is already finished and I want to change the flooring material. We have carpeting over a rubber pad that is directly on the concrete. We'll remove the carpeting because we own a pet and feel that an alternative would be cleaner. What would you suggest, ceramic tile, peel and stick tile or soft cushion flooring? Do we have to add a sub-floor and what do we do if the concrete has spalled a little? We do not have any moisture problems that we are aware of except for the occasional visitation of the millipede.

Answer:

You can take off the old carpet and if the rubber backing has stuck to the concrete, wallpaper removing compound will take that off. For the small imperfections, you can get a masonry floor patch compound and then apply peel & stick to the whole area. It seems to wear best and is easiest to handle both for installation and repair.
