Question:

We intended to put an addition on but the contractor found rotten wood and on and on it goes. So many dollars later we find that the well we drilled one year ago is presenting us with iron. People I talked to were leaning to a water softener. My contractor said the last thing I need was a water softener as most of the drilled wells already have soft water. We are located near Huntsville, Ontario. I am hoping you agree with my plumber (who says run the water for a few minutes and it will go away) but if not I want to know as my children, husband and dogs (not necessarily in this order) are very important to me.

Answer:

I'm afraid I do agree with your plumber. I don't know about the contractor though because I've not heard a whole lot about well water being already soft. Rain water comes to us soft; think back to the last time you washed your hair in your well water, was it like rain water or crankcase oil?
