Question:
I have heard you recommend the use of deck blocks. I intend to build a 10x14 ft. deck I will be placing 3 deck blocks on what is now lawn. I have about 5 to 6 inches of top soil than good sandy base (glebe area Ottawa, Ontario). Should I remove the top soil and replace with enough compacted sand to make sure the bottom of post is off the ground?
Answer:
I'd remove the mushy top soil and fill in the cavity with compacted gravel for drainage.
