Repairing the sewer pipe going out the basement wall just above the basement floor. I have dug down to the pipe but I can't remember what the concrete patch material was called. When I do the fiberglass patch how long do I wait for the concrete patch to cure? At the moment there was no gravel covering the sewer line. How much if any do I cover the pipe with when I am ready to back fill and what type of soil goes on top of that? You were extremely helpful at the home show as well as every Saturday.
Answer:
In cases like this I don't use any masonry patch at all. I just use the fibreglass auto body kit and that can be done as soon as the concrete is clean. Neither do I have to wait to backfill it because it hardens in just minutes. Anytime there is a line to be covered next to the foundation I like to see at least a foot of gravel below and above it. On top of the gravel I like to see sand and then top soil for the garden. Put in enough so it slopes away from the house. A rule of thumb is to slope the first five feet at least ten inches. Next spring that will settle to about three inches.
