Question:

I just recently moved into an old brownstone building with beautiful hardwood floors. However, the person below me has a ceiling fan that, when turned on, creates a steady 'hum' and vibrates the floor ever so slightly. Is there anything you can recommend to soundproof the floor? I am planning to lay down an area rug as well but is there a certain kind of pad/product that can be used specifically for this problem?

Answer:

You might be better off financially to buy a new fan to replace the offending one. The area mat will help some but don't expect it to get rid of all the noise.
