My bungalow is fifty years old and has no vapour barrier between the ceiling and attic. I was planning on installing the vapour barrier over the existing 3/8" drywall (on the warm side of course) and then covering it with new 1/2" drywall. Good idea, or bad?
Answer:
You have found the best way to do it. You make several gains: the extra drywall on the uppermost ceiling makes the whole house more energy efficient, the VB is continuous, you have not created an extra mess, and on it goes.
