Question:

I recently moved into an older style brownstone building with beautiful hardwood floors. However, the person below me has a ceiling fan that causes a slight vibration or hum that eminates from the floor when it's turned on. can you recommend anything that might sound-
proof the floor and reduce the humming? I'm already planning to lay down an area rug, but is there a specific kind of pad/product available for this kind of thing?

Answer:

Far simplere, and probably less expensive to pay for a replacement fan. The area carpet will probably do a bit for it but don't expect it to do away with the noise completely.
