Question:

Both doors have a metal clad sill with a rubber insert about two inches wide which has been replaced several times. Likewise, the weather-stripping on the outside of the doors. For the weather stripping, I have used wood with foam, plastic with adjustable form and metal with adjustable rubber, none of which seem to do the job effectively. The doors seem to leak at the bottom corners. The cottage stands on a re-enforced concrete pad but still has shifted over the years so that the doors no longer hang true. The gap between the door and the jamb at the top is larger(perhaps 1/4") than at the bottom. I do recall planing them some years ago when they were difficult to open/close. Perhaps I took off too much! If, in fact, there is no other solution, my original question still stands. Do I replace with a metal clad door complete with frame or simply with an aluminum storm door over the existing one?

Answer:

There are wooden storm doors on the market that will compliment your cottage and I would suggest fitting them in. The situation you describe is not one you'll look after easily and even a good storm door will only help but not completely do away with the problem because of the constant shifting that takes place.
