We recently bought an older mobile home that I can be made more comfortable. It is supported on concrete blocks and is surrounded with an insulated skirt. There is some movement but relatively little during the winter. Attached to the home is a large porch 6X20 ft. that I want to enlarge to 8 x 30 ft. I also want to insulate it and the skirt, then make it an integral space to the home. It is supported on 4X4s sitting on patio stone. The skirt is currently not insulated and over the years the porch has sunk quite badly. I originally thought to place the porch on sono tube cement columns down to the frost level but after listening to your show, you stated that similar structures might be better on 4X4s sitting on double patio stones. What is your opinion? What other concerns should I look for with this project?
Answer:
You shouldn't have any other worries with it but you should ensure that you are not building anything over any part of the septic system or well.
