I have an older house and I need to replace most of the closet doors. The problem is that they are not the standard height of 80' (they ar 78') Most are the standard width. My question is can I cut off the additional two inches? Is this common? Or, do I need custom doors made? If so, what type of premium over the normal price should I expect?
Answer:
You can cut off the two extra inches and then then strip the veneer off the frame board that was cut off. Now its a simple matter of gluing that board back into the cavity with ordinary white glue and holding it there with wood clamps for a few hours.
