I am preparing to install laminate flooring throughout my main floor. I need to raise my floor 1/4" in order to match the height of my ceramic (foyer) and existing vinyl (kitchen). What's better? Should I screw or glue 1/4 plywood to my existing 3/4 obs floor? Also, I know that you should run hardwood over the floor joists. Does the same apply for a floating floor?
Answer:
The floating floor direction of lay shouldn't matter and when you're attaching the quarter-inch underlayment, you should use screws but try to make sure none of them go through the sub-flooring and into joists because that is a big part of what squeaks are made of.
