I have low spots, about 1/2 inch low and several square feet in area, in the existing plywood sub-floor. Are there any issues with levelling those with self-levelling cement and then adding another 1/2 inch plywood sub floor? Specifically, can I drive screws through the levelling compound and, if so, do I need to drill first? Is there a better solution?
Answer:
The best solution would be to lift the floor from underneath but that isn't always an option. Your idea will work and you shouldn't have to drill pilot holes but you shouldn't drive screws so they end up in joists either or you'll get all kinds of squeaking.
