I purchased an retractable awning and the directions say to have 3 brick courses above where you are to install the awning. I will have 1.5 brick courses above the awning to the underside of the soffit. There appears to be enough room to operate the awning. Do you see any reason why you would need the 3 brick courses?

The only other reason I can think of having that is to retain at least a part of the brick siding's integrity. If you have enough space for the awning to roll up, you might want to make sure all your fasteners go into studs behind the siding. That means screws of at least seven inches long besides the thickness of the bracket holding the awning framework. They'll also have to be at least a quarter of an inch in diameter. Eight-inch screws are not easy to deal with so be prepared because besides all that, you have to ensure that they are driven into the centre of each stud. A poor installation may have you retrieving the whole thing from the next county right after the next wind storm.
