Question:

I've removed some commercial grade carpet from my basement floor and I'm going to have vinyl installed.. (just the laundry room and powder room area) trying to prep the the floor and not sure just how diligent I have to be in regard to the removal of the glue and bits of carpet backing on the concrete. I've used an all purpose glue remover from a popular supply store but it doesn't seem to get me right down to what I think should be straight concrete. I can still see the outlines of the glue patterns from the trowelling etc. should I try a different product or am i down far enough for the application of the vinyl and glue that will be used to install.

Answer:

You'll have to neutralize the glue there with something because there can be a chemical reation between the two adhesives. I think the people you get the sheet vinyl flooring from are about the best to talk to about that particular aspect of the job.
