Question:

I want to know if the tile will stick to the paint on the concrete floor. I also want to know if the glue and paint will react and make the tile lift. I noticed that if you lay a wet towel on the painted floor and leave it for a while, the paint will bubble and you can scrap it off easily. When you remove the towel and let the floor try, it will go back to normal. You will see where the towel was but you can't scrap the paint off. Can I put extra glue that will help? Should I rough up the floor? Should I remove the paint? The paint is an oil base floor paint. I didn't apply it but it looks like 2 to 3 coats. Is there another type of floor cover I could use?

Answer:

It would appear that you'll get a chemical reactionb between the adhesive and the paint so I wouldn't want to do that. To my way of thinking that paint should come off and then try the peel&stick stuff but don't be surprised if it doesn't work - try a tile or two in an inconspicuous spot to make sure. Once you've exhausted these attempts, you might try some form of laminated flooring that is now getting to be very popular and it seems to stand up very well.
