Rather than paint our unfinished, 2-year-old basement floor, my wife and I are considering laying self-adhesive linoleum tiles. We were wondering if a simple scrubbing with soap and water would suffice for preparing the concrete, or would we need to etch the floor as if we were going to paint it? Are there any drawbacks to using self-adhesive tiles compared to paint?

If you're going to wash the floor, you'll have to make sure it is very dry before you apply the tiles. I normally just sweep and lay the tiles on the dry concrete.
