Question:

House, log cabin, story and a half, built 1825. Second story has very wide planks, currently covered with a 1/2 plywood. The floor sags from each end towards the center. The second floor has two rooms. I would like to lay floating floor, but since the floor is not level, probably a 5 inch difference, I am planning to use whatever I can to get a somewhat level playing field. I don't plan to make it pretty, but good enough to allow the floating floor to snap in place, solid, with little flex. Should I be looking at carpeting, or will I get away with floating floor? I have done the kitchen, living room and back entrace in floating, and had to level the back entrance, although I used a combination of wood and self leveling cement. It was out at least 4 inches.

Answer:

Short of going to a lot of work carpetting would be a good option. Short of that, to avoid having to do a lot of plaster repairs, you might consider laying in a new sub-floor and going from there.
