Question:

I've installed prefinished hardwood in my home. Lastnight I noticed in a corner of a room that my wife has been watering the floor as well as her plants. The wood has swelled and cracked under the weight of the plant and strips have separated in a small area. Can I replace individual strips or should I refinish the troubled area? If I refinish how can I be sure to match the prefinish?

Answer:

You can re-finish the area and trial and error will tell you how close you came to matching the colour. Eventually you may have to replace some boards and that's easy to do.
