We have an old seasonal cottage built on a cement slab with no crawl space. I think the carpet is glued right to the cement. We want to winterize it and remodel, but don't know where to begin. Should we lift it and put it on a crawl space? What kind of heat should we use and what about insulating it?
Answer:
I'd forget about the insulation and lay in radiant electric heat under the carpet or whatever other form of flooring you plan to end up with. The old carpet, of course, will have to go.
