Question:

Have recently installed a deck, pressure treated wood, with two lots of steps at either end (3 treads) and an anoter set (2 treads) to upper level. As you may imagine, in Southampton on Lake Huron, we are getting snow...(Lake effects) to the full, mostly dry at present, but we shall be getting more, and wetter, and also freezing rain. Looking at snow/ice melters those we see are not safe on concrete; some are OK with plants, but are there any that you can recommend that are OK for wood decks, and steps? We want to be safe, and also anyone visiting must be safe.

Answer:

Try visiting your favorite nursery and ask them for a good winter's supply of urea. It great stuff and it melts snow and ice very nicely.
