Question:

' 70s carpet/linoleum underneath wanting to lay peel and stick tile. How can you be sure it's linoleum. Could it be something else. Tiles are 12"x12" and kind of look like what older schools use throughout. If it is linoleum, I've heard older stuff can contain abestos. And, what kind of underlayment. Plywood?

Answer:

If it a ' 70s product, you can almost be sure there is asbestos in it and you should have it professionally removed. Unless the manufacturer suggests something specific, I've always used 1/4" poplar plywood and it has worked very well for me.
