Question:

I have a two stair cement step that I've been wanting to cover up with some kind of outdoor carpet substance. Can you recommend what will last the longest and how you install it? I've got as much experience in handy work as the Prime Minister has cutting taxes, so please keep it simple. By the way, like your show. (Don't treat this as a high priority e-mail if you have many to respond to).

Answer:

All e mail carries the same priority and the more I get the more we like it. My suggestion would be to use an artificial turf on it but you have to remember that this stuff gets quite slippery when wet and it tends to hold ice so you'll need a good handrail a bucket of sand to be very handy. You could also get two 1" X 1/4" metal straps to follow the contour of the stairs and landing and then just attach 2X? cedar to them to line the landing and stairs. This lasts very well whereas the glued carpet is only a two or three year project.
