Question:

I have a cinder block basement with a gas furnace. There are 5 windows that can be open to the outside. My two older sons are sleeping down there and I am concerned about carbon monoxide. Besides a carbon monoxide detector and having the furnace checked by an expert repairman what else can I do to insure safety. Would constructing a vent from basement floor to window help?

Answer:

The detector is about your best bet but you might get in touch with your fuel supplier to see what other steps you can take for their protection.
