Question:
I live in a condominum townhouse that suffers from ice dams. I understand that insulation (R40) should cure it as long as I have sufficient air flow. The problem is the living room.
This room has a sloped ceiling with 2 X 8 Rafters. That's 6" of insulation and a 1 1/2" space. How can I eliminate ice dams across the front of the house? By the way there are 27 other owners who would like to know the answer.
Thank's in advance

Answer:
Thats definately a very good question, there is obviously a fault in the design of the condominium townhouse. I can only suggest you either get someone to look at it or you call the original builder and ask them to look at it, you may still have a warranty if the home is not that old. Builders will usually correct a problem if it is in the vast of 27 other homes.
It would be very difficult for me to asses the problem without seeing and my knowledge on ice dams is limited.
