Question:
We have a 1.5 storey (980 sq. foot) home in Winnipeg and our roof was done in 1977. It has cedar shingles covered with asphalt shingles. It has 6 vents, 2 plumbing stacks. Please advise how to proceed with new roof?
Answer:
Hello,
Remove all existing roofing material (cedar, asphalt, vents, plumbing flanges etc.) and start with a clean solid substrate. Intstall ice and water shield at the eave, asphalt saturated felt on the remaining roof area and install new shingles, flashings and vents as required (1 vent for every 300 square feetof floor space).
Good Luck,
