Question:
I am building a detached, unheated garage, and I am considering installing a cedar shingle roof. The plan is to apply 15# tar paper over the OSB sheathing, and then install the shingles. I have read on the internet that either 1x3 straping or a "cedar breather" layer should be applied between the tar paper and the shingles to provide ventillation for the underside of the shingles. Is this necessary?
Answer:
Hello,
I would recommend this air space to allow the shingles to dry between rains to prevent premature rot.
