Question:
Hello,
We took possession of a new home end of November and have discovered a leak (dripping)in one bedroom over the winter. It is a 60's house with a flat roof which was last replaced mid 80's. We have been up to try and check for the source of the leak but the roof is covered in 3-4 inches of ice. I am worried about what will happen with the thaw. Can you offer any suggestions as to how to deal with the situation to minimize damage until we are able to replace the roof in the spring?
Answer:
Hello,
Unfortunately you must let mother nature thaw the ice. Any attempts at removing the ice would most certainly cause more damage and leaks. The older the roof and the colder the temperature the more brittle the membrane becomes.
