Question:
Hi, Anthony, we just moved into a 40 year-old 4-level split house. We were told by the house inspector that the roof need to be changed within 1 or 2 years. The attic has poor insulation and ventalition also. He suggested ridge vent need to be put in. Could you give me some ideas about the the order to do all these work? Attic insulation first or roof first?
Answer:
Without proper ventilation your roof system will not perform to its potential. I suggest you fix the attic first then the roof. Ridge vent are only recommended if there is cathedral ceiling. I recommend you use VENMAR roof ventilators, visit www.VENMAR.ca for more information. Make sure the baffles in the attic are installed between the rafters and the insulation isn't blocking the soffits. If you have wooden soffits replace them with aluminum which is much better for ventilating.
