Question:
I had my roof replaced in 1998. Every year since I have had ice daming and water dripping in the bedroom from the ceiling. I am considering replacing the roof again.
1. The roofer who did the job said that ice daming is not necessarily a result of a poor roofing job. Do you agree?
2. I now have a leak in my bedroom ceiling again and it is July. What do you think about that?
3. Can I put ice and water shield on the whole roof if I do it again. Is this okay?
Thanks
Answer:
Yes its true ice damming is a result of snow thawing and freezing. Ice back-up is not a warrantable issue. Yet it can be prevented. It can be a result of pure ventilation in the attic. If the attic is to worm during the winter it may cause snow to thaw more quickly, it may be a major factor that is contributing to ice damming. It may not be necessary to install ice and water shield every where. It depends on many variables that can determine what your needs are in this case. I would be more then glad to give you a free estimate on your roof to help you find a remedy.
