Question:

I have a wall in my new apartment that has candle wax spilled on it. I was wondering if there is anything that will take the wax off and the color out off the wall without damaging the paint.

Hi Cynthia,

This is a difficult problem. There is a chance that the paint has absorbed the colour from the wax. The success will depend upon the quality of the paint under the wax. In this case, we do not recommend scraping the wax off.

A better approach is to remove it with heat. To do this you will need a hair dryer, paper towel, 2 or 3 soft, damp cotton cleaning cloths and a spray bottle of Fantastik.

Heat the wax with the hair dryer. As it melts, blot it up with the paper towel. Keep going over the area with high heat until no more wax will transfer to the paper towel. Next, spray one of the cloths with Fantastik (very good for wall cleaning), and wipe the area gently. Try not to rub the paint off.

If everything comes back to normal - great! If not, you will have to paint the affected area. At least the surface will be clean and ready for paint.
