Our home is only 11 years old and we have mould on the window frames but only on the second floor. All others are fine. How do we elliminate the problem? Is there anything we can apply that can kill the mould and what causes should we suspect?

In addition to being unsightly, there is mounting evidence that some people suffer from fungus infections when exposed to too much mould.

Mould, a microrganic fungus, will grow wherever moisture is present. It is very resiliant and resistant to removal. It will not scrub out unless you scrub off the underlying surface (caulking, grout, paint, etc.)

To remove mould, the fungus must first be killed. Products, such as Tilex or chlorine bleach (Javex) are effective. Use extreme caution when using these products. wear rubber gloves and do not breath the fumes.

Leave the product on for 20 minutes, then rinse off with water. Rub over the area with a clean, dry cloth. It may be necessary to repeat this procedure more than once.

To prevent the reocurrance of mould, make sure that the upstairs area is kept at low humidity. Always run the fans in the bathrooms and be sure to wipe down shower walls after use.
