Question:

Hi,

My bathroom windows are glass block windows the are held in place with a white cement, these were premountedand then brouhgt on site for installation. My problem is that mould constantly forms in the cement since the winodws can nver be opened. Eventhough we run the fan, the windows always becomes wet after a shower.

What would be the best cure to get rid of the mould on the cement?

Thank you for your help

Answer:

In addition to being unsightly, there is mounting evidence that some people suffer from fungus infections when exposed to too much mould.

Mould, a microrganic fungus, will grow wherever moisture is present. It is very resiliant and resistant to removal. It will not scrub out unless you scrub off the underlying surface (caulking, grout, paint, etc.)

To remove mould, the fungus must first be killed. Products such as Tilex or chlorine bleach (Javex) are effective. Use extreme caution when using these products. wear rubber gloves and do not breath the fumes.

Leave the product on for 20 minutes, then rinse off with water. Rub over the area with a clean, dry cloth. It may be necessary to repeat this procedure more than once.

Another method is to use a vapour cleaner. We find this approach usually gets it in one pass and uses no harmful chemicals. You can find more information at: http://www.wecleanhomes.com/products.htm

To prevent the reocurrance of mould, make sure that the upstairs area is kept at low humidity. Always run the fans in the bathrooms and be sure to wipe down shower walls after use.

Hope this helps.
