Answer:
Hair spray can be a real challenge. The first approach is a simple one.
You might try re-spraying the hair with quite a lot of the original spray and then IMMEDIATELY washing the whole mess off with warm water and liquid dish detergent before the spray has a chance to dry. The re-spray may soften the hardened material long enough that it can all be washed away. Try a sample area first!
The second method is quite techical.
The acrylate copolymers used in hair sprays are closely related to the same copolymers used in strippable floor finishes! In general they have a high carboxylic acid content - up to 30 weight percent.
Mix up a solution consisting of:
1. dilute sodium bicarbonate (regular baking
soda)maybe about 20 percent
2. About 10 to 15 percent isopropanol (regular
rubbing alcohol) and
3. About 1 to 3 percent dish washing soap (NOT THE
STUFF USED IN AUTOMATIC DISHWASHERS).You might substitute another shampoo for the dish soap but if you do stay with a very simple one, without all the conditioners etc.
4. 65% warm water.
Wash the area with the solution using soft cotton cloths. Dry with clean cloths.
