Question:

i have shutters throughout my house but nothing on the patio door. i'm not crazy about vertical blinds, but what do you recommend that would blend in well with the shutter look?
thanks

Answer:

There are many things to consider when designing window coverings for patio doors.
1)How often you use the patio door;
2)whether your barbecue is close to the door i.e. smoke;
3)whether you have you children or pets;
4)and the amount of space that your room offers you.

From a design perspective it would be best to use patio door shutters for this application, primarily because you have shutters throughout your house.
There are two systems that I would recommend:
a) Bifold System. This is a system when two panels would fold into each other and then can be rested against your wall.
b) By-Pass Tracking System. This is when two or more panels can slide and stack in behind each other. This works exactly like sliding closet doors.

Another application that I would recommend would unfortunately resemble a vertical blind. This is a new product by Hunter Douglas and is called Harmony. The cellular shape of the vanes would tie in nicely with the cellular shape of your shutters. As well as looking good you would also receive some energy efficient qualities.
This product would also offer you practicality for it opens side to side like a vertical blind.
Hopefully these answers offer you some ideas to covering your patio door. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call or visit us.
