Bob, I bought a house in Aylmer. It`s quite big but has only one full bathroom. There is a bathroom (toilet) in the finished basement. I wanted to have a shower installed and was told that there is no drain for a shower. Is there shower that doesn't require a drain in the concrete floor but that can connect to the drain of the toilet? It may sound crazy but I thought I had seen this somewhere. Thank you for your help. Patrick

Patrick: It is not clear where your toilet drain is now. Usually a toilet sits on the floor and empties into a drain directly beneath it (i.e. under the floor). If you are on a septic system there is a toilet with an attached pump that will pump the toilet waste up from the toilet and into the septic system. It might be possible to elevate the shower base and have the drain feed into the same pump. However, I do not believe the pump is designed for the volume of water that the shower will produce and you will likely have problems with that type of arrangement. If you are on city water then accessing the drain under the concrete floor should not really be a problem; a bit messy but quite feasible.
