What the best way to remove old ceramic that are all ready coming up and how do you refinish your bathtub

We remove the entire backer board with the tile. If the tiles are already coming off then it is probable that the backer board has mold in it and best that it is removed as well. Wear protective glasses and clothing as tiles can be very sharp and cause injury. Cut a hole in the wall board beside the shower surround so you can work a pry bar in behind the tile surround and just pry it off the wall (board and tile both). when all is off inspect any insulation and vapour barrier that is exposed for damage and signs of mold. Replace these if mold or damage is present. The only tubs worh refinishing are cast iron and acrylic. Steel tubs should just be replaced; they are prone to rust out and you do not want to have to replace a tub after you put up a new tile surround.
