Question:

I have just installed kitchen backsplash tile which is 1 x 1 black/white checkerboard pattern. The tile appears to be unglazed (does not have a shiny finish). I am having trouble removing the "haze" after grouting. The tile looks good after sponging over with water, but then the haze comes back. What do you suggest? Thank you.

Answer:

You could maybe try to use muriatic acid to etch the gout off the tiles but it is an acid and requires lots of protection to both you and surrounding material like your counter top. Did you use regular grout or and epoxy type. The epoxy type can be very difficult to remove after it has dried. Reoeatede washings can in some cases remove the haze. Try an abrasive cleanser in a small area to see if that makes a difference without harming the tile.
