Question:
hi bob,
my existing bath faucet has a knob I pull to divert the water to the shower head.
I have a new one I like but it has no divertor. Can I put a
divertor in it somehow?
the plumbing pipes have no easy
access-tiles & gyproc would have to be removed to get at the pipes.
Answer:
The diverter stops the flow of water through the spout and forces it to back up the pipes behind the wall and out the shower head. Unfortunately a spout without a diverter cannot be retro-fitted to stop the water flow. The only other way to accomplish the same thing is to install a shut off valve in the pipe leading to the spout which would require opening the wall to gain access to the pipes. There are also tub/shower valves with diverters built right into the valve. Again, the wall would have to be opened to allow removal of the old valve and a new one to be installed.
