Question:

I am in the process of doing some remodeling in my walkout basement and would love to put in a bathroom -- just a sink and stool. Where the sewer line drops down from the house is right by the furnace and there just isn't room there -- do you have any suggestions?

Answer:

MSS1939:

The drains in your new bathroom will have to connect to the drain line that is buried in the basement floor. It is not that big of a job but the floor will have to be removed in a line (about 12" wide trench will do ) from where you want the new sink and toilet to where it can connect to the drain line in the floor. To get an idea of how much trenching has to be done look at where the existing drains come up throuh the floor; that is where the stack comes down from upstairs, where the floor drain is located and the cleanout for the house. These points will give you an idea of where the drain is running under the floor and where you have to go with your trenching to connect to it.
