Question:
Hi, We recently moved into a new house in Whitby Ontario and we are having some problems with the bathroom plumbing - everytime we flush the toilet and the tank has filled up there is a banging noise - to me i have never heard it in anyone else house in the development but when the on site plumber checks it out - he says that it is the pressure and where the block is not completely occupied yet - it will do that. But if this is the case - why does it not happen to everyone elses house in the area. I was wondering if you would be able to give me some insight on this matter!
Thanking you in advance,
Nicole & Joe
Answer:
Nicole & Joe;
I'd ask your plumber to look at your situation one more time as this is a common complaint I hear from people particularily after the main water line to the house has been shut off. It sounds like you have an "air lock" in your lines and they just need to be bled. A routine remedy will do the trick.
Preumably he will know how to bleed the air lock from the line by turning the main water off then opening all faucets throughout the house (don't forget the line to hot water tank/outside shutoffs as well). Then systamatically turning the faucets off one by one starting at the highest point in the house and moving down to basement level. Alltoilets should be flushed as well thus eliminating any air captured.
