Question:

Hey bob, is there a way to stop the toilet from continually running other than lifting the lid and pulling up the rubber ball a little bit more to engage the shut off? Thanks Curtis

Answer:

You need to first determine why the toilet is running all the time. If the flapper is not seating properly water will continually drain from the tank to the toilet and the ball cock valve will always be opening to allow more water in the tank. Dirt, algae or an improperly adjusted lift chain can cause this problem. Another problem you can encounter is a worn ball cock valve. If the the valve requires a lot of up pressure on the float to shut it off you will likely need to replace the ball cock. They are relatively inexpensive and often a universal valve will do the trick. Bob Bathrooms First www.bathroomsfirst.ca
