Question:
I have ceramic tile in my bathroom above my shower area, and I want to know an easy way to remove it with out destroying the drywall underneath. The original contractor did not put down Harding board before applying the ceramic tile. The tiles are the old 2x2 squares, which look like they are linked together. I have started to remove some of the tile and it has turn out to be a bigger job than I estimate. Please advice on how I can take this old tile down without ruining the drywall completely.

Answer:
Usually you cannot remove ceramic tile without damaging/destroying the backerboard.
Looks like you wil need to remove the tile and substructure back to stud frame and start from there in order to redo.
