Question:

we are moving to a new house and considering window coverings. are drapes going out of style, as we seem to see a lot of shutters, blinds and shades. could you give me some brief positive/negative characteristics of each? thank you for your efforts.

Answer:

With the advent of today's energy efficient windows the traditional layered treatments of sheers & wall-to-wall draperies has declined. Where in the past we tried to prevent drafts, today we try to preserve the view. That is why you are seeing so many shutters, blinds and shades on todays windows. At the same time drapery sidepanels, valances and decorative rods have seen a renaissance in recent years. Drapery treatments that can accentuate a rooms architectural features are especially popular.
As far as the pro/cons of the various options alot depends on your individual windows and tastes. There are situations where your options will be limited by the architecture of your windows and situations where the only limit is your imagination and budget.
Consult a local window treatment professional in your area for a shop-at-home consultation to find out which options are applicable to your windows. If you are in the Ottawa region please feel free to contact us here at Riopelle Drapery.
Thank you for your question!
